From Struggles to Success: Sharing My Journey Os Fellas Podcast
Recently, I had the fantastic opportunity to share my story at a podcast called Os Fellas podcast, a conversation held entirely in Portuguese, celebrating the resilient spirit of Brazilian immigrants in the United States. It was personal, candid, and yes, filled with some unexpected revelations!
We explored a wide range of topics, from my early struggles living undocumented in the U.S. to my current role as a Senior Designer at Google. Here are some highlights from our deep dive:
Life Undocumented: Perseverance Amid Challenges
I opened up about the emotional and practical struggles of spending many years without legal status in America. From coping with anxiety around everyday activities like driving to dealing with health crises without proper insurance, these experiences shaped my resilience and determination. I shared how my passion for design sparked at an early age, leading me to creatively navigate hurdles to pursue my dreams. Whether it was building websites from discarded computers or working odd jobs while honing my skills, my journey has always been driven by genuine passion and innovation.
Breaking Barriers in Tech
One of the pivotal moments I discussed was landing a dream role at Citi Bank, despite not having a formal college degree. It was a turning point that reshaped how I view opportunities in tech, underscoring the value of skills, creativity, and grit over traditional qualifications.
Personal Reflections: Community and Identity
On the podcast, I also talked about the importance of community support and the unique experiences faced by immigrants navigating dual identities. Sharing these stories reminded me why staying connected to our roots matters so much. Overall, my conversation on Os Fellas podcast was a heartfelt reflection of my journey a blend of trials, triumphs, and gratitude.
